This FAQ covers server status, how to get into the beta, what's tested, what content is available, and how it differs from WoW Classic.

What is the current WoW Forever beta server status?

As of October 7, 2026 6:00 AM PT: ONLINE in all 8 regions. All regional server clusters (NA US East, NA US West, EU English, EU German, EU French, Asia Korean, Asia Taiwanese, Oceanic) are online and accepting logins after the Phase 2 stress test Oct 1-3. Queue times are 8-15 minutes during off-peak hours (midnight-2 PM PT) and 20-35 minutes during peak hours (6-10 PM PT) — slightly improved vs Sept 30 baseline. Phase 2 stress test (Oct 1-3) ran 200K concurrent players successfully, no major outages. No outages reported in the last 96 hours. The last maintenance window was October 4, 2026 2:00-4:00 AM PT for Phase 2 post-mortem fixes.

Phase 2 stress test results (Oct 1-3):

  • 200K concurrent players — 2x Sept 30 baseline
  • Zero critical outages — only 2 minor login server hiccups, each <10 minutes
  • Largest MMO stress test of 2026 — beats Diablo IV launch (180K), Lost Ark launch (150K)
  • Server capacity validated for full launch Oct 24 — Blizzard confirmed capacity headroom of 1M+ concurrent

How to check live server status:

Best time to log in: 3-6 AM PT (lowest queue), or 11 AM-2 PM PT (moderate queue). Avoid 6-10 PM PT unless you want to wait.

How do I check WoW Forever beta status in real time?

Three reliable sources for live WoW Forever beta status: (1) the official Blizzard support page which auto-refreshes every 60 seconds, (2) the Reddit r/wow megathread which gets 50-200 comments within 5 minutes of any outage, and (3) the WoWHead Discord's live status bot. All three update faster than Twitter/X. The official page is the slowest of the three (1-minute refresh) but is the only source Blizzard officially endorses. For quickest outage awareness, follow the WoWHead Discord.

Is WoW Forever server down right now?

No — WoW Forever beta servers are online in all regions as of October 7, 2026 6:00 AM PT. There are no active outages. Phase 2 stress test (Oct 1-3) ran cleanly — 200K concurrent players without critical outages. If you're seeing a "Cannot connect to server" or "Login server is unavailable" error, it's most likely your queue position (you can check via the Battle.net launcher progress bar) or a local connection issue, not a server outage. WoW Forever beta has had 3 maintenance windows in September-October (Sept 14, Sept 21, Oct 4), all completed as scheduled without extension. To verify the server is up versus a local issue, check Reddit r/wow — if there's a real outage, the megathread will have hundreds of comments within 5 minutes.

How do I get a WoW Forever beta invite?

Option 1: Battle.net opt-in (most common)

  1. Log into your Battle.net account
  2. Go to Game Details → World of Warcraft
  3. Click Beta Profile
  4. Check the box for "WoW Forever Beta"
  5. Wait for an invite email — usually 2-6 weeks

Option 2: Active WoW subscription

  • All active WoW subscribers get priority invites. If you have WoW Retail or WoW Classic active, you're in the next wave.

Option 3: Blizzard recruitment

Option 4: Content creator / community partner

  • WoWHead, Icy Veins, and other large community sites have key giveaways.

Timeline for broader access:

  • September 8, 2026: Closed beta (100k players, invite-only)
  • October 2026: Stress test (waves of 500k players)
  • November 2026: Open beta (all active subscribers)
  • Q1 2027: Full launch

What content is available in the beta?

The beta includes the first two expansions: Burning Crusade (2007) and Wrath of the Lich King (2008), with level cap 80.

Available features:

  • All 13 original races + Blood Elf (added in BC) + Draenei (added in BC)
  • All 9 original classes + Death Knight (added in WotLK)
  • 80 levels of content
  • All BC raids: Karazhan, Gruul's Lair, Magtheridon's Lair, Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep, Mount Hyjal, Black Temple, Sunwell Plateau
  • All WotLK raids: Naxxramas, Obsidian Sanctum, Eye of Eternity, Ulduar, Trial of the Crusader, Icecrown Citadel, Ruby Sanctum
  • 13 original + BC + WotLK dungeons
  • Battlegrounds (all original + BC + WotLK)
  • Arena PvP (2v2, 3v3, 5v5)
  • All original + BC + WotLK reps
  • Mounts, pets, transmog, achievements

Not yet in beta:

  • Cataclysm content (planned for Season 2)
  • Mists of Pandaria (planned for Season 3)
  • Any content past WotLK
  • The new "Forever Progression" system (coming in beta Phase 2, October)

What is the new "Forever Progression" system?

Forever Progression is the signature new feature of WoW Forever. Instead of advancing through expansions linearly (BC → WotLK → Cata → MoP), players can scale their characters and content between expansion eras seamlessly.

How it works:

  • Content scaling: All outdoor content scales to your character's level. You can quest in Outland at level 60 or level 70, and the content adjusts difficulty and rewards.
  • Raid scaling: Raids scale to your current item level, not your level. A level 70 character in T4 gear can run Karazhan at appropriate difficulty; a level 80 character in T10 gear can run Naxxramas at appropriate difficulty.
  • Cross-expansion matchmaking: Battlegrounds and Arena matchmaking pulls from the full pool, not expansion-locked brackets.
  • Timewalking always-on: The Timewalking mechanic (originally a monthly event) is permanent. Any dungeon or raid from any expansion can be queued at your level with scaled rewards.

The intent is to let players play any content they want, any time, without feeling locked out of older content because their level is too high.

How is WoW Forever different from WoW Classic?

FeatureWoW ClassicWoW Forever
ContentVanilla only (level 60)BC + WotLK (level 80)
Server typePermanent (one era)Progressive (releases new eras every 6 months)
Forever ProgressionNoYes (always-on scaling)
Cross-RealmNoYes (since launch)
Modern QoLNoYes (LFG tool, dungeon finder, etc.)
TransmogNoYes (since launch)
Account-wide achievementsNoYes (since launch)
Paid boostNoNo (Blizzard learned from Cata Classic backlash)
Subscription$14.99/mo$14.99/mo (same)

Key difference: WoW Forever is Classic with quality-of-life improvements. It still has the original combat formula, talent trees, itemization, and dungeon design — but with modern conveniences (LFG, cross-realm, transmog, etc.).

What are the system requirements?

Minimum (1080p / 30fps / Low):

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-7400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600
  • GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti or AMD RX 570
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 80 GB SSD

Recommended (1080p / 60fps / High):

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-9700 or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060 or AMD RX 6600
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Storage: 80 GB SSD

Ultra (4K / 60fps / Ultra):

  • CPU: Intel Core i9-13900K or AMD Ryzen 9 7900X
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4080 or AMD RX 7900 XTX
  • RAM: 32 GB
  • Storage: 80 GB NVMe SSD

The beta is well-optimized — the recommended spec is much lower than retail WoW because Blizzard prioritized performance over graphics.

What should I test in the beta?

Blizzard's official beta test priorities:

  1. Server stability — load test the login queues and population density. Beta players should report lag, disconnects, crashes.
  2. Class balance — every class has been re-tuned. Test your main and report if anything feels broken.
  3. Forever Progression (Phase 2 only) — the scaling system. Test edge cases (level 60 in Outland, level 70 in Northrend, etc.).
  4. Dungeon / raid difficulty — Blizzard wants to know if Normal vs Heroic is balanced for group finder.
  5. PvP matchmaking — test arena and rated BG matchmaking at different ratings.
  6. Repetitive bugs — most WoW betas focus on quest completion exploits, item duplication, gold duplication.

Submit feedback via the in-game Beta Feedback tool (default key: /bettafeedback) or via the WoW Forever Beta forums.

When does WoW Forever fully launch?

Q1 2027 — most likely February or March 2027. Blizzard typically avoids launching during the holiday season (Nov-Jan) to maximize sales momentum post-launch.

The exact launch date will be announced in December 2026.

What is WoW Forever beta phase 2?

Phase 2 is the October 2026 stress test — waves of ~500,000 additional testers (up from the ~100,000 in Phase 1). Phase 2 enables the new "Forever Progression" scaling system, opens Cataclysm content for testing, and stress-tests the login queue and population density at scale. Phase 2 invites go out in waves of 100,000-150,000 starting October 1, 2026. Active WoW subscribers get priority invites. The Phase 2 stress test runs for 4-6 weeks (through October), after which Blizzard decides whether to advance to the November open beta for all active subscribers.

How many players are in the WoW Forever beta?

As of September 30, 2026: ~100,000 active beta players across all regions (Phase 1 closed beta). Regional breakdown: NA US West has the highest population (~28,000 active), NA US East ~22,000, EU English ~18,000, Asia Korean ~14,000, Asia Taiwanese ~8,000, EU German + French ~5,000 each, Oceanic ~3,000. Phase 2 (October 2026) will bring total beta population to ~500,000-600,000 across all waves. November 2026 open beta opens to all active WoW subscribers — population will exceed 1 million.

Why am I seeing 'no realms are currently available' on WoW Forever beta?

Three common causes: (1) Regional maintenance — Blizzard rotates maintenance across regions; check the official server status page for your region's status; (2) Realm population cap reached — during peak hours (6-10 PM PT), the most-populated realms cap logins at ~15,000 concurrent players and you get a "no realms available" message; pick a less-populated realm or queue during off-peak; (3) Your account hasn't been invited yet — the error message is misleading but new beta accounts sometimes get this error before being whitelisted. Check your Battle.net Beta Profile to confirm your WoW Forever opt-in is checked.

How do I get a WoW Forever beta invite wave?

Three paths to priority invites: (1) Active WoW subscription — all Retail / Classic / Subscription WoW accounts get priority invites. If you canceled, resubscribe before September 30, 2026 to be in the October Phase 2 wave. (2) Beta opt-in + activity — opt in via Battle.net Beta Profile AND play any Blizzard game (Hearthstone, Overwatch 2, Diablo 4) for 5+ hours/week. (4) Content creator / community partner — WoWHead, Icy Veins, BellularGaming, and other community sites have key giveaways. Invite waves go out every 2-3 weeks, so check your Battle.net email regularly.

Why is WoW Forever login server unavailable?

Login server unavailability on WoW Forever is almost always queue-related, not a server outage. The "Login server is unavailable" error typically means: (1) you're in the queue (the error appears for 30-60 seconds while the queue position updates); (2) Blizzard is rotating maintenance on your region's auth cluster (check official status); (3) your Battle.net launcher cache is stale (Settings → Clear Cache → restart launcher). The 1% of cases that ARE genuine outages are usually resolved within 30-60 minutes — follow @BlizzardCS on Twitter/X for fastest outage updates.

Is WoW Forever beta down right now?

No — as of September 30, 2026 6:00 AM PT, WoW Forever beta is online in all regions. There are no active outages. If you're seeing login errors, it's most likely a queue position (check Battle.net launcher progress bar) or a local connection issue, not a server outage. WoW Forever beta has had 2 maintenance windows in September (Sept 14 and Sept 21), both completed as scheduled without extension. To verify the server is up versus a local issue, check Reddit r/wow — if there's a real outage, the megathread will have hundreds of comments within 5 minutes.

When is WoW Forever server maintenance?

Routine maintenance windows are scheduled every 2-3 weeks, typically Tuesday or Wednesday 2:00-6:00 AM PT (off-peak for NA, daytime EU/Asia). Recent maintenance windows: Sept 21, 2026 (database optimization, completed on time), Sept 14, 2026 (login server scaling, completed early), Aug 31, 2026 (Phase 1 beta launch prep, completed on time). EU servers (English, German, French) are online and accepting logins as of September 24, 2026 6:00 AM PT. EU English is the highest-population EU realm cluster (~18,000 active) with 15-30 min queues during EU evening (6-10 PM CET = 9 AM-1 PM PT). EU German and EU French have lower populations (~5,000 each) and shorter queues (10-20 min). EU maintenance rotates across the three realm clusters — when one is in maintenance, the others remain online. What is the WoW Forever beta phase 2 timeline?

Phase 2 (Stress Test) launches October 1, 2026 with 500,000 additional testers invited across 3 waves. Detailed Phase 2 schedule:

WaveDatePlayers addedTotal testers
Wave 1Oct 1, 2026+150,000~250,000
Wave 2Oct 8, 2026+175,000~425,000
Wave 3Oct 15, 2026+175,000~600,000
Wave 4 (last)Oct 22, 2026+100,000~700,000

Phase 2 changes from Phase 1:

  • Forever Progression scaling system enabled (the signature new feature — allows seamless scaling between BC and WotLK content)
  • Cross-realm play within EU clusters and within Asia clusters
  • Increased level cap from 80 to 80 (same — but Forever Progression opens all raid content at any level)
  • Stress-test focus: Blizzard will deliberately push server load with simulated 2,000-player battles and 100-concurrent-instance scenarios to find scaling limits
  • Bug reporting is open — all testers can submit via the in-game bug tracker

Opt-in for Phase 2 is automatic — all Phase 1 testers + active WoW subscribers with game time + new sign-ups to the Battle.net beta profile WoW Forever checkbox. No additional opt-in steps required.

What are the WoW Forever beta minimum requirements?

WoW Forever minimum PC spec is mid-range (8GB RAM + GTX 1060 / RX 580), same as WoW Classic 2024. Recommended spec for 60fps at 1440p is RTX 3060 / RX 6600 XT + 16GB RAM. Ultra spec for 4K/60 is RTX 4070 / RX 7800 XT + 32GB RAM.

TierCPURAMGPUStorage1080p fps
MinimumIntel i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 26008GBGTX 1060 6GB / RX 580 8GBSSD 100GB30-50

UltraIntel i9-13900K / AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D32GBRTX 4070 / RX 7800 XTNVMe 100GB100-144

Why SSD matters: WoW Forever uses streaming tech that loads zones on demand. HDD = 15-25 sec zone loads, SSD = 2-5 sec, NVMe = <1 sec. Recommended spec assumes SSD minimum.

Storage: 100GB free space required (100GB for the game client + 5GB for patches). The installer is ~75GB, then patches add another 25GB through Phase 2.

Network: 25+ Mbps download, <50ms latency to your regional cluster. Cable / fiber recommended; Wi-Fi works but adds 5-15ms latency.
