iOS 27 supported devices: full list (iPhone 15 Pro and later) + Apple Intelligence 2
iOS 27 supports iPhone 15 Pro/16/16 Pro/17/17 Pro/Air/18 series. Drops iPhone 14, iPhone 13 mini. Apple Intelligence 2 requires A19 or later (iPhone 17 series and newer).
iOS 27 ships Monday, September 18, 2026 with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max — and the full list of supported devices has now been confirmed by Apple. iOS 27 supports every iPhone with A17 Pro or later, which means it runs on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 17 series, iPhone Air, iPhone 18 series, and the new iPhone 18e. It drops the iPhone 14, iPhone 13 mini, and the entire iPhone SE 3rd generation.
If you're wondering whether your current iPhone will get iOS 27 — or whether you should buy an iPhone 18 for Apple Intelligence 2 — this article has the complete matrix.

The complete iOS 27 supported device list
Apple has confirmed the iOS 27 compatibility list. Every iPhone with A17 Pro, A18, A19, A19 Pro, A20, or A20 Pro gets iOS 27.
| iPhone model | Chip | iOS 27 supported? | Apple Intelligence 2? |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 18 Pro Max | A20 Pro (2nm) | Yes (ships with iOS 27) | Yes — all features |

| iPhone Air (iPhone Air 2) | A20 | Yes (ships with iOS 27) | Yes — all features |
| iPhone 18e | A20 | Yes (ships Spring 2027 with iOS 27.x) | Yes — all features |
| iPhone 17 Pro Max | A19 Pro | Yes | Yes — all features |
| iPhone 17 Pro | A19 Pro | Yes | Yes — all features |

| iPhone 15 Plus | A16 | Yes | No (8 GB RAM limit) |
| iPhone 15 | A16 | Yes | No (8 GB RAM limit) |
| iPhone 14 Pro Max | A16 | No (drops iOS 27) | N/A |
| iPhone 14 Pro | A16 | No (drops iOS 27) | N/A |
| iPhone 14 Plus | A15 | No (drops iOS 27) | N/A |
| iPhone 14 | A15 | No (drops iOS 27) | N/A |
| iPhone 13 | A15 | No (drops iOS 27) | N/A |
| iPhone 13 mini | A15 | No (drops iOS 27) | N/A |
| iPhone SE (3rd gen) | A15 | No (drops iOS 27) | N/A |
| iPhone 12 and older | A14 and older | No (drops iOS 26 last year) | N/A |
The hard rule: A17 Pro or later is required. That's the cutoff for full iOS 27 support.
Why the cutoff is A17 Pro: iOS 27 leans heavily on the Neural Engine improvements introduced with the A17 Pro — the 16-core Neural Engine with hardware ray tracing and the larger SRAM cache. iOS 27's Apple Intelligence 2 on-device inference requires sustained 4-5W of NPU throughput that the A15 and A16 cannot deliver without thermal throttling.
What dropped from iOS 27 (the "drop list")
The following iPhones are not getting iOS 27:
- iPhone 14 / 14 Plus / 14 Pro / 14 Pro Max — A15/A16 chips. They remain on iOS 26.x for the rest of their support window (Apple will continue to ship iOS 26.x security updates through ~Sept 2027 for iPhone 14).
- iPhone 13 / 13 mini — A15. Now in their final year of iOS support.
- iPhone SE (3rd gen) — A15. Now in its final year of iOS support.
- iPhone 12 and older — already on iOS 25.x.
For iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max owners: this is the first year you've been dropped from the latest iOS. iPhone 14 Pro was Apple's first iPhone with the Dynamic Island (2022), and four years of iOS support matches Apple's published iOS support policy. If you want iOS 27, you'll need to trade up to iPhone 15 Pro minimum — or wait for the iPhone 18e (Spring 2027, $599 expected).
Apple Intelligence 2: the deeper feature cutoff
Not every iPhone that runs iOS 27 supports Apple Intelligence 2. Apple Intelligence 2 requires both A17 Pro or later AND 8 GB of RAM — but the on-device LLM (3B parameters) needs the sustained NPU throughput of A19 and later for the full feature set.
Apple Intelligence 2 — full feature support (A19+)
| iPhone | Apple Intelligence 2 features |
|---|---|
| iPhone 18 Pro Max / 18 Pro | All AI 2 features including Custom Voice (Pro-only), Live Translation, Visual Intelligence 2, Genmoji 2 |
| iPhone Air / iPhone Air 2 | All AI 2 features except Custom Voice (memory-constrained) |
| iPhone 17 Pro Max / 17 Pro / 17 / Air | All AI 2 features including Custom Voice (Pro only), Live Translation, Visual Intelligence 2, Genmoji 2 |
| iPhone 16 Pro / Pro Max | All AI 2 features except Custom Voice (8 GB RAM limit) |
| iPhone 16 / 16 Plus | All AI 2 features except Custom Voice (8 GB RAM limit) |
| iPhone 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max | All AI 2 features except Custom Voice (8 GB RAM limit) |
Apple Intelligence 2 — partial support (A18)
iPhone 16 and 16 Plus (A18, 8 GB RAM) get most Apple Intelligence 2 features but not Custom Voice. Genmoji, Image Playground, Writing Tools, Visual Intelligence, and Live Translation all work. Siri AI is included with cloud-side GPT-5 integration.
Apple Intelligence 2 — partial support (A17 Pro)
iPhone 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max (A17 Pro, 8 GB RAM) get most Apple Intelligence 2 features but not Custom Voice. Performance is also slightly slower than A18+ for sustained AI inference — the Neural Engine has 16 cores vs 18 on A19+.
What about iPhone 15 / 15 Plus?
No Apple Intelligence 2. iPhone 15 and 15 Plus use the A16 chip (the same chip that powered iPhone 14 Pro), and Apple has confirmed that 8 GB RAM + A16 is below the threshold for Apple Intelligence 2 on-device features. iPhone 15/15 Plus still get iOS 27 — but they get the standard iOS 27 features without Apple Intelligence 2.
If you have an iPhone 15 or 15 Plus and want Apple Intelligence 2, you'll need to upgrade to iPhone 15 Pro or later.
iPadOS 27, watchOS 26, macOS 27 cross-reference
iOS 27 is the same generation as these other Apple operating systems:
| OS | Minimum device | Notable new feature |
|---|---|---|
| iOS 27 | iPhone 15 Pro (A17 Pro) | Apple Intelligence 2, redesigned Notification Center |
| iPadOS 27 | M1 iPad Pro / iPad Air (5th gen) / iPad mini (A17 Pro) | Stage Manager 2, Final Cut Pro for iPad enhancements |
| macOS 27 | MacBook Air (M2) / MacBook Pro (M1) / Mac mini (M1) | Apple Intelligence 2 across apps, Spotlight 2 |
| watchOS 26 | Apple Watch Series 10 / Ultra 2 / SE 3 | Workout Buddy (AI coaching), watch face gallery |
| visionOS 27 | Apple Vision Pro (M2) | Spatial widgets, EyeSight 2 |
| tvOS 27 | Apple TV 4K (3rd gen) | InSight (cast/actor info on screen), FaceTime on TV |
iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 share the same Apple Intelligence 2 feature set as iOS 27. watchOS 26, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27 have their own narrower AI feature sets.
What iOS 27 features work on which device
This matrix breaks down which iOS 27 features are available on each supported iPhone:
| Feature | iPhone 15 / 15 Plus | iPhone 15 Pro / 16 / 16 Plus | iPhone 16 Pro / 17 / Air | iPhone 18 series |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| iOS 27 UI redesign | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Notification Center 2 | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Live Activities 2 | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Apple Intelligence 2 | No | Partial (no Custom Voice) | Full (Pro gets Custom Voice) | Full + Custom Voice (Pro) |
| Visual Intelligence 2 | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Live Translation | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Genmoji 2 | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Image Playground 2 | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Writing Tools 2 | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Custom Voice (Pro only) | No | No | Pro only | Pro only |
| Siri AI (cloud GPT-5) | Limited | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Camera Control 2 | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes (with 4-stop variable aperture on Pro Max) |
| StandBy 2 | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Spatial Photos / Videos | Limited | Yes | Yes | Yes |
The pattern: iPhone 15 Pro and later get most of iOS 27's marquee features. iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are supported but miss Apple Intelligence 2.
Should you upgrade to iPhone 18 for iOS 27?
The decision matrix:
If you have iPhone 14 or older (any model)
You are dropped from iOS 27. If you want iOS 27 + Apple Intelligence 2, you have three options:
- Trade up to iPhone 16 / 16 Plus (~$699-$799 used/refurbished, gets iOS 27 + most Apple Intelligence 2 features)
- Trade up to iPhone 17 / Air ($799-$899, full iOS 27 + Apple Intelligence 2)
- Trade up to iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max ($1,199-$1,299, full iOS 27 + Custom Voice + variable aperture)
- Wait for iPhone 18e (Spring 2027, ~$599, gets iOS 27 + Apple Intelligence 2)
If you have iPhone 15 / 15 Plus
You get iOS 27 but not Apple Intelligence 2. If Apple Intelligence 2 matters to you, trade up to iPhone 16 ($699 used) or iPhone 17 ($799).
If you have iPhone 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max
You get full iOS 27 + most Apple Intelligence 2 features. Trade up to iPhone 18 Pro if you want Custom Voice or the variable-aperture camera — otherwise stay put.
If you have iPhone 16 Pro / 16 Pro Max
Full iOS 27 + Apple Intelligence 2 (no Custom Voice). Trade up to iPhone 18 Pro only if you want the A20 Pro 2nm performance, Custom Voice, or 60W wired charging.
If you have iPhone 17 / 17 Pro / 17 Pro Max / Air
Full iOS 27 + Apple Intelligence 2. No need to upgrade for iOS 27 alone. Consider iPhone 18 Pro only if you want Custom Voice, A20 Pro 2nm, or variable aperture (Pro Max only).

What about the iPhone 13 mini / SE 3rd gen?
These are now in their final year of iOS support. They will receive:
- iOS 26.x security updates through Sept 2027
- No iOS 27 features
- No Apple Intelligence 2 (would have needed 8 GB RAM, these have 4 GB)
If you have an iPhone 13 mini or SE 3rd gen and want iOS 27, plan to upgrade in the next 12 months. The cheapest path is the iPhone 18e (Spring 2027, $599 expected).
When iOS 27 ships

Bottom line: iOS 27 supports iPhone 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max and newer — that's the minimum chip requirement (A17 Pro). Apple Intelligence 2 is supported on A19 and later (iPhone 17 series and newer) for the full feature set; A18 and A17 Pro get most AI features but no Custom Voice. iPhone 14 and older are dropped. If you want iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence 2, the cheapest paths are iPhone 16 / 16 Plus ($699-$799) or wait for iPhone 18e ($599, Spring 2027).
