Google unveiled the Pixel 11 lineup at the Made by Google 2026 event in New York City on August 12, with retail availability starting August 20 2026. Pricing for the base model has moved up to $899 (from the Pixel 10's $799), the Pixel 11 Pro starts at $1,099, and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold lands at $1,899. Every model ships with the new Tensor G6 chip, Android 17, and Google's "Pixelsnap" magnetic accessory system that mirrors MagSafe.

For readers tracking the iPhone 18 cycle, the Pixel 11 launch is the last major data point before Apple's September 9 keynote. The two lineups will be compared side-by-side all the way through pre-order. Below is what Google actually announced, what it costs, and where the Pixel 11 lands relative to the iPhone 18 family.

What Google announced at Made by Google 2026

Trevor Noah hosted the keynote. Google announced in one event:

  • Pixel 11 — base phone, $899
  • Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL — $1,099 and up
  • Pixel 11 Pro Fold — $1,899 (Google's second-generation foldable)
  • Pixel Watch 5 — smartwatch successor
  • Pixel Tag — tracker (AirTag competitor)
  • Pixel Buds Pro 2 software update
  • Tensor G6 — the silicon inside all three Pixel 11 phones
  • Pixelsnap — Google's MagSafe-compatible magnetic accessory system
  • Gemini Intelligence — new on-device AI features

The biggest physical change is the Camera Bar. Google redesigned it as an "all-glass Camera Bar" that is 40% thinner than last generation and protrudes noticeably less. With an official case, Google advertises that the plateau "practically" disappears.

The biggest functional change is 30x SuperRes Zoom — the Tensor G6 unlocks 30x digital zoom on top of the 5x telephoto, which is the first time a base-model Pixel has matched the zoom range of the Pro line.

Pixel 11 Pro and 11 Pro XL

The Pro models share the same Tensor G6 silicon but differentiate on camera, display, and the new "HiLight" ambient LED ring.

HiLight is the headline new feature. It is a ring of ambient LEDs built around the rear flash, replacing the temperature sensor that survived three generations. The LEDs pulse in different patterns to show when Gemini is listening, thinking, or responding, mirroring the visual feedback on the Google Home Speaker. You can also assign one of five custom colors to favorite contacts, which pulse when they call. Third-party notification support is on the roadmap.

Camera upgrades:

  • 50 MP main sensor (up from 50 MP on Pixel 10 Pro but with larger pixels and 30% more light sensitivity)
  • 48 MP telephoto with a larger image sensor, enabling Portrait Mode at 5x and 120x Pro Zoom
  • Instant Night Sight that is up to 4.5x faster than Pixel 10 Pro

Display upgrades:

  • 3,600 nits peak brightness on the Super Actua display (up from ~2,400 nits on Pixel 10 Pro)
  • 2x more scratch-resistant cover glass

The Pixel 11 Pro is $1,099 and the Pixel 11 Pro XL starts at $1,199 (matching the Pixel 10 Pro XL starting price).

Pixel 11 Pro Fold

The second-generation Pixel Fold keeps the book-style design but lands at $1,899, which is $100 cheaper than the original Pixel Fold launch price. Google claims the back is "nearly impossible to crack" — a response to early Fold durability complaints. Hands-on coverage notes the device is "fine I guess" in 9to5Google's preview, suggesting Google prioritized reliability over radical changes.

Tensor G6: the silicon story

Tensor G6 is the custom Google silicon inside every Pixel 11 model. CPU configuration:

  • 1× ARM Cortex C1-Ultra at 4.11 GHz (high-performance single core)
  • 4× ARM Cortex C1-Pro at 3.38 GHz (performance cluster)
  • 2× ARM Cortex C1-Pro at 2.65 GHz (efficiency cluster)
  • GPU: PowerVR CXTP-48-1536
  • Modem: MediaTek M90 (Google has now fully exited Samsung Exynos modem dependency)

The shift to MediaTek for the modem is a notable change — Google used Samsung Exynos modems on Tensor G1-G3 and switched to MediaTek for G4 and G5. M90 is the third MediaTek modem in a row, signaling that MediaTek is now the long-term partner for Google modem silicon.

Pixelsnap: Google's MagSafe

Pixelsnap is Google's version of Apple's MagSafe. It is a magnetic ring on the back of every Pixel 11 model that supports 25 W Qi2.2 wireless charging and works with the same chargers that work with MagSafe-compatible iPhones. Pixelsnap cases, wallets, and stands are available at launch at 20% off on Amazon.

This is the first time Google has had a magnetic accessory standard in line with the rest of the industry, and it removes one of the few remaining Pixel hardware disadvantages versus the iPhone.

Pixel 11 vs iPhone 18: how they compare

We do not have full iPhone 18 specifications yet — Apple announces September 9 — but here is what is known about the iPhone 18 cycle and how it shapes up against the just-announced Pixel 11.

The Pixel 11 wins on base storage (256 GB vs an expected 128 GB on the iPhone 18), zoom range (30x vs iPhone's 25x), and starting battery capacity. The iPhone 18 is expected to win on chip efficiency (TSMC N2 2 nm vs Tensor G6 on a likely 3 nm process), single-core CPU performance, and Pro Max-tier camera hardware.

The Pixel 11 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro comparison will be closer. Both are $1,099 starting. Both have a telephoto camera with 5x optical. Both ship with 12 GB RAM. The Pixel 11 Pro wins on zoom (120x Pro Zoom vs ~25x on iPhone), display brightness (3,600 nits vs ~2,000 nits on iPhone 17 Pro), and the HiLight notification ring is genuinely useful. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to win on video recording (Apple's codec stack), ProRAW processing, and the rumored variable aperture on the Pro Max.

What to watch between now and September 9

Three things will determine whether Pixel 11 dents iPhone 18 sales:

  1. Review embargo and real-world benchmarks. Tensor G6 needs to be tested against A20 in single-core, multi-core, and sustained-performance workloads. The leaked Pixel 10 Pro Tensor G5 was 20-30% behind Apple's A19 in single-core. G6 may close that gap or may not.
  2. Pixelsnap accessory uptake. If Google and third parties actually release Pixelsnap wallets, stands, and battery packs in volume, it removes one of the few remaining reasons iPhone users cite for staying. If the accessory ecosystem is sparse at launch, Pixelsnap is a spec sheet win with no real-world use.
  3. Pre-order pricing and carrier deals. Pixel 11 pre-orders went live the same day as the announcement with $350 gift cards at Amazon and aggressive trade-in values. If those deals hold through August 20, Pixel 11 has a pricing story. If they fade before launch, Pixel 11 reverts to its usual $899-as-and-discounted position.

Pixel 11 pre-order and release

  • Pre-order: live now at Google Store, Amazon, and Best Buy
