Pre-orders are reported to open either Friday, September 11 at 5:00 AM Pacific or Saturday, September 12 at 12:01 AM Pacific, with first deliveries expected Friday, September 18.123 This is the most-anticipated iPhone cycle in years because it is the first to include the iPhone Fold alongside the standard lineup, and because every Pro model is reportedly moving to Apple's first 2nm-class silicon. Here is where things stand with 3 days to the keynote, with sources for every claim.

Update August 27 2026 — Apple event officially confirmed. Apple announced its next Special Event for Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Pre-order timing is unconfirmed — Apple has not announced it; reporting points to either Friday, September 11 at 5:00 AM PT or Saturday, September 12 at 12:01 AM PT (skipping the 9/11 anniversary). In-store availability is expected Friday, September 18. Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park is the venue. When is the iPhone 18 launch event?

Apple's fall keynote has shifted from Tuesday September 8 to Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The reason: Monday, September 7 is Labor Day in the US, and Apple has never held a fall keynote on the day after Labor Day. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has had the September 8/9 window as the expected range in his July Power On newsletter, citing Apple's internal event planning.3 Apple has used the first or second week of September for every flagship iPhone event since 2012, and the September 9 read was confirmed by forbes Phelan and News18 reporting on August 19 and August 25.2 The keynote is at 10:00 AM Pacific Time, the standard Apple event slot.

Which models will Apple announce on September 9?

Four iPhone 18 models are expected to be unveiled at the September 9 event, with a fifth (iPhone 18e) likely held back for spring 2027:

  • iPhone 18 Pro — 6.3-inch display, A20 Pro chip, variable-aperture main camera (rumored), smaller Dynamic Island.1
  • iPhone 18 Pro Max — 6.9-inch display, A20 Pro, 5,567 mAh battery (regulatory filing), 240g heaviest iPhone ever.1
  • iPhone Fold — Apple's first foldable, 5.5-inch cover / 7.8-inch inner display, ~$2,000+ starting price.16
  • iPhone Air 2 — thinner sequel to the 2025 iPhone Air, 5.5mm target chassis, ProMotion display, A20 Pro.1

The iPhone 18 (standard, non-Pro) and iPhone 18e (affordable entry) are widely reported to launch in spring 2027, not at the September event. What has been confirmed about the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max?

Three pieces of confirmation, each from a primary source:

  1. Battery sizes — regulatory filings surfaced via MacRumors put the iPhone 18 Pro Max at 5,567 mAh (eSIM) / 5,391 mAh (physical SIM) and the iPhone 18 Pro at 4,288 mAh (eSIM) / 4,056 mAh (physical SIM). The earlier social-media leak (5,425 / 5,235) is consistent with the regulatory numbers within margin.   2. A20 Pro chip on TSMC N2 — multiple analyst reports (Kuo, The Information) and AMD's Q2 2026 earnings call (Aug 5) confirmed that TSMC's N2 node is on track for the second-half 2026 ramp, with Apple as the largest single customer. The A20 Pro is the first Apple-designed chip on N2; efficiency gains over the A19 Pro are estimated at 10-15% in real-world workloads.   3. iPhone 18 Pro Max weight and thickness — supply-chain reports put it at 240g (the heaviest iPhone ever) and 9mm thick (about 0.5mm thicker than the 17 Pro Max). The trade-off is the larger battery and the variable-aperture camera module. See our weight/thickness leak coverage.1

Beyond those, the Pro and Pro Max are widely expected to bring:

  • A smaller Dynamic Island (Kuo) on both Pro models6
  • A variable-aperture main camera on the Pro Max (Kuo, with some disagreement on whether the smaller Pro also gets it — see our camera comparison vs 17 Pro)1
  • A redesigned ProMotion LTPO Plus display with higher peak brightness (9to5Mac, June) 1
  • 12GB unified RAM across the entire Pro lineup (analyst consensus)

What about the iPhone Fold?

The iPhone Fold is the headline addition to the September 9 event. It is Apple's first foldable phone, with:

  • 5.5-inch cover display / 7.8-inch inner foldable display (multiple supply-chain sources)1
  • Starting price approximately $2,000-$2,500 in the US (Counterpoint June estimate) 1
  • 3D-printed hinge in a redesigned titanium frame (per the Apple split-launch strategy article)
  • A20 Pro chip, 12GB RAM, Apple C2 modem (consistent with the rest of the Pro lineup)

The one new wrinkle this month: the iPhone Fold may ship a few weeks after the Pro models, not on the standard September 18 launch day. 9to5Mac's July 27 piece reports the Fold could follow the 2020 pattern, where some models shipped a month later than the headline release.2 We have updated the iPhone Fold spec page accordingly. Pricing expectations

Pricing is the single biggest open question. The latest credible numbers, all from primary sources:

The story: the standard iPhone 18 holds at $799 (Apple absorbing cost on the mass-market product), while Pro and Pro Max see modest $50-$100 increases driven by N2 wafer costs and the new camera module. What we still don't know

Seven things Apple has not yet confirmed and that we should not see until September 9:

  1. Exact iPhone 18 Pro Max weight and battery trade-off — is the 240g / 9mm confirmed or final?
  2. Variable aperture on the smaller Pro — Kuo says Pro Max exclusive, MacRumors roundup says it could go either way. Final answer expected at the event.
  3. iPhone 18 / 18e spring 2027 pricing — not yet leaked.
  4. iPhone Fold shipping date — confirmed for fall 2026, exact day uncertain.
  5. Apple Intelligence rollout for the iPhone 18 — iOS 27 features should be largely public by the event, but which features are gated to which devices is the real question.
  6. Carrier deals — typically announced on September 9 alongside the hardware.
  7. iPhone 18 Pro color lineup — Burgundy is the most-leaked new color, but full palette (and whether any colors are Pro exclusive) is not public.

What to do in the next four weeks

Three concrete things before September 9:

  1. Decide storage and Pro vs Pro Max. Storage (256GB / 512GB / 1TB / 2TB) is the biggest single price lever on the Pro models. Pre-deciding before pre-order Friday avoids impulse upgrades.
  2. Get trade-in quotes now. Apple's trade-in values fluctuate based on inventory and demand. If you are upgrading, lock in the best quote before launch day — Apple's program is competitive, but carriers often beat it. See our trade-in guide for the full comparison.
  3. Decide between iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold. If you have been waiting for the Fold specifically, the expected mid-October shipping window is the constraint. The Pro models ship September 18; the Fold may follow weeks later.

Supply update (August 6-11 2026)

The single most important supply-side development for the September 9 event: iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and Fold will face inventory constraints at launch due to a DRAM shortage that has left $1 billion of A20 Pro processors unpackaged at TSMC (per Wayne Culpan via 9to5Mac on August 6 2026). Ming-Chi Kuo on August 10 disputed the $1 billion headline figure but agreed memory is constrained and Apple is scaling back 2026 hardware shipments.

  • Expect the iPhone Fold to sell out fastest (new product, complex to manufacture).
  • Skip third-party carriers if day-one delivery matters.
  • Wait until October or November if you can — supply normalizes in Q1 2027.

Color update (August 10 2026)

Fixed Focus Digital has confirmed via Weibo that Burgundy / Burgundy is the flagship marketing color for the iPhone 18 Pro — the purple-red shade that resembles cherry. Cosmic Orange on the iPhone 17 Pro is being retired. Apple is expected to market this as the standout color of the generation, similar to how Cosmic Orange was marketed for iPhone 17 Pro. Battery update (August 10 2026)

A photo of the actual iPhone 18 Pro Max battery cell surfaced on Korean platform Naver on August 10 2026, listing 5,391 mAh for the China model — exactly matching the regulatory database numbers from last month. The U.S. (eSIM) model is confirmed at 5,567 mAh. This is the third independent corroboration of the Pro Max battery capacity. iPhone 20 cancellation report (August 10 2026)

A note to watch but not panic on: Jefferies analyst Edison Lee on August 10 2026 downgraded Apple to "Underperform" with a $263.66 price target, claiming the rumored all-glass iPhone 20 (Apple's 2027 anniversary redesign) has been scrapped due to production yield issues and memory costs. The cancellation is bad news for Apple's 2027 pricing roadmap but does not affect the iPhone 18 cycle in any way.

Sky event tomorrow: August 12 2026 total solar eclipse (August 11 update)

Pixel 11 launches in 6 days — what iPhone 18 buyers should know (August 12 update)

Google held Made by Google 2026 on August 12 and confirmed the Pixel 11 launches August 20 at $899 (up from $799 on Pixel 10). The Tensor G6, 12 GB RAM, 256 GB base storage, and 30x SuperRes Zoom are the headline changes. Pixel 11 Pro starts at $1,099 and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold lands at $1,899. Pixelsnap (Google's MagSafe) is a notable catch-up to iPhone.

For iPhone 18 buyers: the Pixel 11 Pro is the closest comparison point to the iPhone 18 Pro, both at $1,099, both with 12 GB RAM, both with 5x telephoto. The Pixel 11 wins on zoom range, display brightness (3,600 nits), and base storage; the iPhone 18 is expected to win on chip efficiency (TSMC N2 2 nm) and single-core CPU. Apple's launch cadence is now locked in:

  • September 9, 2026 (Wednesday): iPhone 18 keynote at 10:00 AM Pacific, Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park.
  • September 11, 2026 (Friday) at 5:00 AM PT, or September 12 (Saturday) at 12:01 AM PT: Pre-orders open for iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max — unconfirmed; Apple may shift off the 9/11 anniversary as it did in 2015.
  • September 14, 2026 (Monday): iOS 27 public release — five days after the keynote. All supported iPhones can update.
  • September 18, 2026 (Friday): First deliveries and in-store availability for iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
  • Late September to mid-October 2026: iPhone Fold first deliveries — limited quantity, US market first.

RAM tier differentiation (August 22 update)

Per Ming-Chi Kuo's August 15 forecast, the iPhone 18 lineup will split RAM into two tiers for the first time:

  • 12 GB LPDDR5X: iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, Air 2, Fold (full Apple Intelligence feature set)
  • 9 GB LPDDR5X: iPhone 18, 18e (partial Apple Intelligence — missing customizable Siri voice and advanced dictation)

The 9 GB standard iPhone 18 and 18e miss two iOS 27 Apple Intelligence features that require Apple's most-capable on-device AI model. iOS 27 final release date confirmed (August 22 update)

iOS 27 ships to the public on Monday, September 14, 2026 — six days after the iPhone 18 keynote and five days before first deliveries. Beta 6 (build 24A5418b) shipped to developers and public testers on August 17; GM seed is expected at the September 9 keynote. The most capable Apple Intelligence features require 12 GB RAM, gating them to Pro / Air 2 / Fold models.
