A new color for the iPhone 18 Pro is consistent with this pattern.

Apple's color sample process involves producing multiple variants and testing them under different lighting conditions. The Burgundy color has reportedly passed Apple's color accuracy tests.

What evidence contradicts it?

Color rumors are notoriously unreliable. Apple final color decisions are made late in the production cycle, and supply-chain reports can refer to test colors that never ship. The iPhone 17 Pro was rumored to get a Deep Purple color in early 2024, which never materialized.

Update (August 10 2026): Fixed Focus Digital confirms cherry as the flagship marketing color

9to5Mac on August 10 2026 reported that Weibo leaker Fixed Focus Digital has seen both lighter and darker versions of the rumored iPhone 18 Pro color surface online, and that the correct shade is the darker variant — a purple-red shade that resembles cherry. Some earlier reporting called the color "red" or "deep red" (which is why some mockups have a lighter, red-heavy look), but per Fixed Focus Digital the more purple-tinged cherry is what Apple will ship.

The Fixed Focus Digital note adds three useful specifics:

1. Burgundy / Burgundy is the flagship marketing color. Apple is reportedly planning to focus its launch marketing on this color, similar to how iPhone 17 Pro's Cosmic Orange was the standout color for that generation. Cosmic Orange is being retired in favor of Burgundy.
2. There will be three (maybe four) iPhone 18 Pro colors, with strong consensus on three. The Burgundy is one. Whether the lineup includes a dark gray / black this year is unclear from the current reporting.
3. There are no other Pro-exclusive color surprises rumored. The Burgundy is the new headline color; the rest of the lineup is expected to be carried-over neutrals with at most one additional new option.
